It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Andrew Kaide, age 86. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice Kaide, and his sons Kevin Andrew Kaide and Colin Graham Kaide and his granddaughter Karissa Erin Kaide. Michelle Kaide and Beth Balik also held a very special place in his heart.
Eugene was first a Guidance Counselor and English teacher at Carl Schurz High School in Chicago, IL (1957-1970). He then became a principal, first at Emmet Elementary School in Chicago (1970-1973) then at McPherson Elementary School (1973-1976). His final position was as the long-time and extremely successful principal at Marconi Community Academy (1976 until his retirement, December 31st, 1990).
His legacy of caring and kindness and the desire to facilitate the success of everyone is why he will always stand out as one of the greats and why he was repeatedly reelected principle by the Marconi Community until his retirement in 1990.
He focused his life on making his children and family successful, healthy and happy. He served as a role model for “family first.” Kevin has a degree in journalism and works for the Kona Brewing Company in Kona, Hawaii. Colin is an attending emergency physician and faculty member at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. His beloved granddaughter Karissa Erin Kaide found great inspiration and encouragement from their long talks and his emotional and academic guidance. She is a Junior in Speech/Language Pathology and Communication Disorders at The University of Kentucky, Lexington, KY.
In their retirement, Eugene and Alice became prominent antique dealers in the Chicagoland area. They had a successful antique business called “Golden Oldies” and their knowledge of antiques rivaled the best of the best.
We will never forget the lessons that our father taught us. We have grown and have learned so much from our father. We are proud to be the sons of Eugene Andrew Kaide and Alice Graham Kaide.
